With the idea that youth need and deserve more support, over 20 youth development agencies engaged in a 10-month dialogue to identify ways they can work together, sharing resources and expertise, for the betterment of all youth in the Memphis and Shelby County area. The Youth Development Collaborative was formed with representatives from 10 youth development organizations on the Steering Committee, and eight other organizations on task groups. The Youth Development Collaborative (YDC) is committed to mobilizing the community to become a supportive, healthy and nurturing community that understands and values all youth. Funded by The Assisi Foundation of Memphis and a United Way of the Mid-South Venture Grant, the YDC conducted an assessment of youth�s assets that analyzes community opportunities and gaps in youth support and services and will be used to create a community engagement process. On October 17-18, the YDC will present their findings and how everyone can make our community a better place to grow up. Dr. Peter Benson, President of the Search Institute, will be the featured speaker at the events. Dr. Benson is the pioneer of the 40 Developmental Assets�. |
