Career Exploration: Workshop
and Real Woman Connection
Many girls do not get enough exposure to the
world
of work or hands-on real life career exploration
experiences. Often they are steered toward a specific
career or a particular field of study because of family
preferences or the unfamiliarity with the variety of
options that exist. It is important to expose and help
girls consider the numerous career options available to
them. It is also important to provide girls with access
to women in the career fields they are considering.
Girl Scout Council of the Mid-South
is offering a one day career exploration workshop
combined with a job shadowing component for girls 11-17
years old. Girls will examine their values and interest
to learn the steps to realistically asses career
possibilities and evaluate suitable job matches.
Participants will share in interactive fun activities to
help them identify career choices that match their
abilities and aptitudes.
Following the workshop, girls 11-14 will have an
opportunity to meet, interview, and connect with women
in careers that she has identified as an area of
interest. Girls 15-17 will participate in a one day job
shadowing experience where she can experience first hand
the work that happens in her career interest.
All
participants will be introduced to
community
resources and resource people. They will begin to get a
realistic picture of what it takes to become a valued
employee and how decisions they make today affect
educational choices and future career options.

and connect with women in careers that she has

sleeping. Those who want to sleep in tents must bring
their own. Meals and snacks are provided each day. Bus

Think
Big
Working on a Girl Scout Silver or Gold Award
lets girls discover, lead and take action. A grant
provided by First Tennessee Foundation encourages girls to
think big when it comes to their final project.
Girls can apply to have funding collected
for their project matched by the Think Big grant. A
maximum of $250 will be matched for a Girl Scout Silver
Award project and $750 for a Girl Scout Gold Award
project. All fund raising guidelines must be followed when
collecting money for the project. Be sure to refer to
Safety-Wise.
Mentors and project advisors are also
available to help girls plan and carry out their projects.
Having someone who is familiar with the project focus can
be a valuable resource and supporter.
With the help of mentors and financial
assistance, girls should feel encouraged to expand their
ambitions and Think Big.

STUDIO
2B Resource Kits
(return

Did
you know that we have packaged most of the STUDIO 2B
resources into a resource kit that you can check out for
troop or recruitment events? These kits can be reserved
through the Resource Library at the Girl Scout Service
Center.
E-mail Addresses
In an effort to make communication more
effective, the council is compiling an e-mail list of
teens. Please ask your teen Girl Scouts to submit their
name, service unit, age level and e-mail address to
[email protected].
We will
be communicating some information through e-newsletters.
By having e-mail address, we can get information out
sooner. Because the list will be complied from the names
received through the address above, make sure they send
their e-mail address, even if someone at the council
already has it.

A
destination is your chance
for Girl Scouts
ages 11-17 to go somewhere new, do something different,
and meet people from everywhere they can imagine.

for you?

experience the culture of new places.
Apprenticeships

potential career field.
